There are various types of dog training collars available to teach not only walking skills, but correct other problems such as excessive barking, jumping and aggression toward other dogs. Choosing the right training collar depends on various factors such as the size and personality of the dog.

To start with, we should understand that the neck of the dog is the place that the dog is used to, through instinct, feeling and getting corrections. Dog training collars can help you quickly and effectively train your family dog. Whether it’s for obedience or hunting, training collars can be a pain-free way to train your dog.

Different types of collars are given below:

  1. Flat Collar: These types of collars are static, which is not restricting when pulled. The term flat does not make refer to the shape but rather the application of the collar. They are generally a buckled type collar that is fixed onto the neck of the dog. They look good and are most easily obtainable. They are made from a variety of fabrics from leather to plastic to clot.
  2. Choke Collars: Choke collars are metal collars consisting of connecting links with large round rings attached to both ends. Handlers make corrections by tugging quickly on the leash, causing the collar to close on the dog’s neck. Choke collars are only used for training purposes and should never be left on a dog’s neck when unsupervised as choking can result.
  3. Prong Collar: Prong collars are a series of chain links with blunted open ends turned towards the dog’s neck. Pronged Collars are effective for small size people who have very big, strong dogs and can really give you an edge over a really wild, misbehaving dog. The collar is designed to prevent the dog from pulling by applying pressure at each point against the dog’s neck.
  4. Martingale Collar: Martingale collars have become very popular over the last few years with family pet owners and for good reason. A martingale collar has 2. Loops; the smaller loop is the control loop that tightens the larger loop when pulled to prevent dogs from slipping out of the collar.
  5. Electric Collar: Electric collars correct behavior by shocking the dog. Electric collars can train dogs to stop barking and not go beyond their property boundaries. When a dog does approach a property boundary or barks, the collar corrects the behavior by shocking the animal.
